More than 25,000 people in Glasgow were fined for failure to tax their vehicles, new data has revealed.
The DVLA published data on the number of enforcement actions taken against drivers over road tax issues for areas across the UK in 2021.
Authorities dished out the fourth most penalties and fines in Scotland’s largest city, with a total of 25,304 enforcement actions taken in Glasgow.
London saw the largest number of actions taken against drivers for failing to tax their car than anywhere else in the UK, with 97,013 registered last year.
The figures include automated enforcement penalties and ones by enforcement teams and wheel clamping partners to the DVLA.
Birmingham and Manchester were the other two areas in the UK that were above Glasgow.
The data came as the DVLA launches a new advertising campaign to remind motorists of the risks posed by failure to tax their vehicles on time.
It is believed that more 98 per cent of drivers in the UK have currently taxed their vehicle appropriately.
The campaign will almost highlight the ease in which drivers can tax their vehicle - which can be done online or at a Post Office.
Julie Lennard, DVLA chief executive, said: “This campaign has a clear message for anyone that delays or avoids taxing their vehicle.
“It really has never been easier to tax a vehicle, from using our 24/7 online service to direct debit options. We want motorists to understand that’s it not worth taking a risk and always tax their vehicles on time.”
