Businesses and organisations across Dumfries and Galloway have been nominated for the south of Scotland’s first ever Thistle Awards.
The prizes are the premier tourism accolades in the country, with Dumfries and Galloway usually in the west region awards.
However, a south region – featuring Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders – has been created for the Johnstons of Elgin sponsored awards for the first time.
Among the nominees are Nithbank Country Estate at Thornhill and Queensberry House in Moffat, both shortlisted for best B&B or guest house experience. Nithbank is also in the running for the climate action award.
Gather near Gatehouse, is in the running for best eating experience.
The Selkirk Arms Hotel in Kirkcudbright and the Cairndale Hotel in Dumfries are both shortlisted for the best hotel experience, with Lock Ken Eco Bothers and Arden Holiday Cottage near Irongray nominated for best self-catering accommodation.
There’s two Dumfries and Galloway nominations for best visitor award – Dalscone Farm Park in Dumfries and The Devil’s Porridge Museum in Eastriggs.
The Devil’s Porridge is also shortlisted for Celebrating Thriving Communities along with KPT Development Trust, with Dalscone nominated for innovation in tourism.
Dalscone’s Ellis Corrigan said: “We decided to apply for the Thistle Awards to showcase the work we have put into incentivising people to come to our often overlooked yet beautiful region of Scotland.
