A pensioner has died after being hit by a car in Renfrew. Emergency services raced to Cambridge Road after reports that an 81-year-old man had been knocked down by a blue Ford Focus at around 8am on Tuesday.

One stunned resident told the PA: “We were walking our dog on Lade path and approaching Auld Bond Road when we heard the sirens very loud and getting closer.
“We then saw the blue lights travelling at speed on Primrose Terrace and quickly realised they were chasing a speeding car.
“However, we remained on Lade path which meant our vision was partly obscured by the trees between the Lade and Primrose and the car went passed so fast, we wouldn’t be able to identify it. I did see it appeared to be grey or silver.
“We stood for around five minutes only and in that space of time, going by the siren sounds, it was clear the chase was going around Primrose, Tulloch Terrace possibly but maybe Crieff Road and back into Primrose.
“It passed us at least twice, it could have been three times. It was terrifying. My heart was pounding.
“I honestly thought it could end in a horrendous incident.
“ I posted on Facebook just to warn folk who might be getting into their cars or walking to shop or have kids out. It was very scary and a miracle if no one was hurt or other vehicles damaged.”
Another man added: “I was following it as (the driver) nearly hit me in North Muirton twice and then again on Tulloch Terrace.
