Drew Barrymore is giving Reneé Rapp credit for protecting her from an alleged stalker.
The daytime television host was interviewing the cast of movie musical Mean Girls on Friday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. That’s when she gave Rapp a big hug for escorting her offstage during a speaking event last year when trouble ensued.
“You and I, by the way, you’re my protector,” Barrymore said. “Reneé and I had an incident recently where this guy came to attack me on a stage that I was [on] with Reneé, and she mama-beared out and protected me so well.”
Barrymore went on to say that Rapp was “protective and amazing” throughout the whole situation.
The incident in question happened last August. Barrymore was leading a discussion about Rapp’s debut album, Snow Angel, at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. That’s when a man charged the stage.
As multiple security guards stepped forward, Rapp grabbed Barrymore and led her off the stage to safety. The pair returned to finish their conversation after the incident, with Barrymore noting that Rapp went “full Bodyguard” during the ordeal. She added, “You are my Kevin Costner.”
The same man was temporarily detained outside Barrymore’s New York home a few days later.
