This was the moment a stolen car was brought to a sudden halt following the driver's 'dangerous' attempts to avoid being caught. Officers pursued the tiny white car from Manchester to Middleton yesterday (October 15), while a police helicopter followed events from above.
Greater Manchester Police says the car had been stolen from Waterloo Gardens, in Ashton-under-Lyne, at around 10.15am on Sunday. Officers from GMP's Road Policing Unit later spotted the vehicle in Manchester city centre.
They followed the car for 10 minutes as the driver continued trying to evade police. Having been pursued all the way to Middleton, the car was eventually brought to a stop by officers using a stinger on Manchester New Road.

It was then contained by specialist tactical pursuit officers, leaving the car's driver nowhere to escape. Image from a police camera, shared by GMP on social media, shows the car had been brought to a halt by 10.53am.
Officers arrested a 31-year-old man at the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and aggravated vehicle taking.
The man is also wanted by another force for breaching a restraining order, GMP says. He remains in police custody for questioning this morning (Monday).
