Drake’s armed guards refused and “kicked” subpoena in XXXTentacion murder trial

Drake‘s armed guards allegedly refused a subpoena issued to the rapper in relation to the murder of XXXtentacion.According to the Miami Herald, Mauricio Padilla, lawyer for Dedrick Williams, one of the three men accused of murdering XXXTentacion, issued a motion last week requiring Drake (real name Aubrey Graham) to deliver a deposition later this month.Padilla alleged that when an attempt was made to deliver the subpoena outside Drake’s California home on February 14, guards not only closed the gates in the face of the servers, but also kicked the subpoena down the driveway. The defence lawyer’s filing also included transcribed audio of the conversation said to have taken place between the process servers and Graham’s guards, reports Rolling Stone.According to the audio, security repeatedly allegedly insisted the process servers had to get off Graham’s property and maintained that they were neither expecting any deliveries, nor authorised to accept anything. In trying to plead their case, one of the process server’s allegedly told the guards: “It is only a subpoena for a virtual deposition, it is not even like a lawsuit bro.”After one final attempt to serve Graham, one of the process server’s apparently said: “By the way, I like Drake.” To which the guard replied, “I am not accepting anything.”Along with trying to serve Drake, Padilla claimed a subpoena was also served to his lawyer Bradford Cohen, asking if he would “accept service on behalf of” the rapper which Cohen allegedly refused. In a filing by Cohen yesterday (February 20), he insisted that the subpoena brought to Drake’s house was not properly served in compliance with California law, arguing that not only was he not authorised to accept service, but neither were

Drake and 21 Savage settle Vogue’s fake cover lawsuit

Drake and 21 Savage last week settled the lawsuit filed against them by Vogue over the marketing campaign for their collaborative album ‘Her Loss’.That campaign involved the creation and distribution of an assortment of fake media coverage, including a faked Vogue cover featuring Drake and 21 Savage, and even a short run of a mocked up edition of the fashion magazine containing that cover and some other spoof content.Whereas the other spoofed media didn’t seem too bothered by the ‘Her Loss’ promo, Vogue owner Condé Nast was not happy at all.It quickly sent out some cease and desist letters to the musicians and their communications agency Hiltzik Strategies, and when that didn’t result in any ceasing and desisting, the media firm went to court accusing Drake, 21 Savage and Hiltzik of trademark infringement, unfair competition and false advertising, among other things. That legal action sought a court order – initially a temporary restraining order – that would prohibit any further distribution of the fake Vogue cover, plus – of course – lots of lovely damages.Quickly granting the temporary restraining order, the judge concluded that “Condé Nast has a likelihood of success on its claims for federal and common law trademark infringement, false designation of origin and unfair competition, false endorsement, dilution, false advertising, and violation of [New York General Business Law]”.The musicians and their marketing team confirmed they’d adhere to that order at the time, telling the court: “To avoid unnecessary cost and expense, defendants, pending the outcome of this litigation, but without conceding any liability with respect to the claims asserted by Condé Nast in this action, and without conceding any wrongdoing on
