Directors Guild Of Canada BC Ratifies New Film & TV Contract

Such workers choose the color palette for animated films and TV shows, and traditionally they have tended to be women.They have also been paid about $300 per week less than the designers who do characters, backgrounds and props.

Members of the Animation Guild, IATSE local 839, have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new film and TV contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The vote was 87% in favor of ratification. According to the guild, the number of members who voted more than tripled since the last ratification vote.

WGA East members employed by ABC News have voted overwhelmingly – 96% in favor – to ratify a new thee-year contract. The 110-member bargaining unit includes news editors, news writers, continuity writers, researchers, assignment editors, desk assistants, production assistants and graphic artists based in New York and Washington, D.C who work at Good Morning America, WABC, ABC News Radio, NewsOne, and at the network desks for ABC’s national news programs.

A first-of-its-kind census conducted by the Directors Guild of Canada has found that people of color are “significantly underrepresented” among its membership, accounting for only 18.3% of the more than 3,000 members who completed a self-identifying survey. According to the report, BIPOC make up 26%-27% of the Canadian population. Black members accounted for only 2.5% of the members surveyed.
