Director Jane Schoenbrun on the Extremely Online, Gender Dysphoric Coming-of-Age Journey in ‘We’re All Going to the World’s Fair’

Manori Ravindran International EditorA John Krasinski-produced movie about a fugitive billionaire has found its director in Peter Landesman.Sources tell Variety that the “Concussion” writer-helmer is on board to direct the long-gestating movie, which is based on Daniel Ammann’s biography “The King of Oil: The Secret Lives of Marc Rich.” The film tells the story of the international commodities trader and founder of Glencore, who was indicted in the U.S. on 65 criminal counts that included tax evasion, wire fraud, racketeering and striking deals for oil with Iran during the Iran hostage crisis.Rich had already fled the U.S.

Variety reports that Johan Renck has been tapped to direct the show’s first two episodes, replacing Villeneuve.

Previously, “Dune” director and co-writer Denis Villeneuve was attached to direct the pilot for “Dune: The Sisterhood,” but his work on the “Dune” sequel film will prevent him from doing so.The show is set 10,000 years prior to the events of “Dune” and follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.Renck won two Emmys for his work on the critically-acclaimed HBO limited series “Chernobyl” — one as an executive producer when the show won best limited series and another for best directing for a limited series, as he directed all five episodes.
