The Telemundo-owned Los Angeles station, part of a duopoly with sister NBC outlet KNBC, swept this year’s key newscast categories at the 75th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards. The Spanish language station dominated the evening, winning the Emmys for evening (7 p.m. to 12 a.m.), daytime (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and morning (4 a.m. to 11 a.m.) newscasts. KVEA had won the daytime newscast Emmy last year as well (while KTLA won evening, and KNBC won morning, in 2022). Overall, KVEA earned eight L.A. Area Emmy awards this year, tied with local public broadcaster KCET. (That was also up from KCET’s haul of six last year.) Given the tie with KVEA, that still preserves KCET’s streak of this being the seventh year in a row that KCET won the most.

Notably, veteran filmmaker Sam Pollard received two of the six noms.  The award, established in 2019, recognizes late-stage documentaries that use original research and a compelling narrative to tell stories that bring American history to life through archival materials. The six projects that were selected are: Barak Goodman’s “Buckley,” Nicole London’s “The Disappearance of Miss. Scott,” Sam Pollard’s “The Harvest,” Peter Yost and Michael Rohatyn’s “Drop Dead City – New York on the Brink in 1975,” Sam Pollard and Ben Shapiro’s “Max Roach: The Drum Also Waltzes,” and Jason Cohn’s “Modernism Inc.: The Eliot Noyes Design Story.”

With the WGA and SAG strikes happening right now, there are a lot of questions about what the fall film festival circuit will look like. Will studios pull films if they can’t have stars show up at the events? Will the events be delayed if they can’t produce a quality lineup of features? While the “Godzilla” franchise seems to be going pretty well in America, with Adam Wingard’s upcoming “Godzilla vs. Kong” sequel set to arrive in 2024, over in Japan, the original Toho-guided franchise has been quiet since 2016’s “Shin Godzilla.” And before that, there wasn’t a new live-action Japanese-produced film in the franchise since 2004.

The UK Government recently set a new target to save at least £1.3billion in 2023-24 through its dedicated counter fraud and error resource.
