It has survived two World Wars and predates the Titanic, but the Hartford Mill in Werneth, Oldham is to live on no longer after demolition work resumed on the historic building this week.
The former cotton spinning mill was built in 1907 for the Hartford Mill Company Ltd and designed by Frederick Whittaker Dixon, an architect from Southport who designed a number of mills throughout the Oldham area.

If you’re a fan of “The Office,” you know that after Steve Carell left the series, the show found it difficult to replace him, often relying on guest stars to help carry the load. Well, eventually, the show landed on James Spader to guest star in a string of episodes, but before that, according to the hosts of the Talking Sopranos podcast, James Gandolfini was in line to appear.
The final two seasons of “The Office” almost looked a little more like “The Sopranos”.
Talking Sopranos” — a podcast hosted by “The Sopranos” co-stars Michael Imperioli, 55, and Steve Schirripa, 63 — it was revealed that Gandolfini had been offered a role to replace the character Michael Scott as branch manager of Dunder Mifflin on “The Office,” following Steve Carell’s departure from the NBC show in 2011.
