Deadline has launched the streaming site for Contenders Film: The Nominees, the Oscar nominees panel showcase that took place Saturday.
Cast and creatives from eight Oscar-nominated films sat down for wide-ranging discussions about the craft that went into the making of the movies now in final stretch to the Academy Awards on March 10.
The diverse panels ran the gamut, from Best Picture nominees Killers of the Flower Moon, The Holdovers and Anatomy of a Fall to documentaries like Bobi Wine: The People’s President, To Kill a Tiger and Năi Nai & Wài Pó, the historical epic Napoleon and the animated Elemental.
Panelists included Napoleon costume designers Janty Yates and David Crossman and production designer Arthur Max; Holdovers stars Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, director Alexander Payne, writer-producer David Hemingson and producer Mark Johnson; Flower Moon cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, production designer Jack Fisk, set decorator Adam Willis, producer Daniel Lupi and songwriter Scott George; Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó director Sean Wang and its subjects Yi Yan Fuei and Zhang Li Hu; Bobi Wine’s director-producer Christopher Sharp and director-DoP Moses Bwayo; Elemental director Peter Sohn; To Kill a Tiger helmer Nisha Pahuja and editor Mike Munn; and Anatomy of a Fall‘s co-writer Arthur Harari and producer Marie-Ange Luciani.
The participating studios were Apple Original Films, Disney | Pixar Animation Studios, Disney+, Focus Features, National Geographic, Notice Pictures and Neon.

After decades in the industry, costume designer Ellen Mirojnick earned her first nod for “Oppenheimer.” Scott George became the first Osage Nation songwriter to be nominated for his song in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” while Diane Warren scored a record 15th nod. Joining me in the Apple Original Films portion of Deadline’s Contenders Film: The Nominees were several Oscar nominees for Martin Scorsese’s epic Western Killers of the Flower Moon, and since the film has been nominated for a whopping 10 Academy Awards it was a good cross-section of artisans who made this very big film come to life.
The Oscar-nominated artisans from Ridley Scott‘s epic Napoleon joined me as part of Apple Original Films‘ presentations at Deadline’s Contenders Film: The Nominees event. Veteran production designer Arthur Max and costume designers Janty Yates and David Crossman talked extensively about what it was like to work with Sir Ridley on the ambitious, large-scale production that saw Joaquin Phoenix play Napoleon Bonaparte and Vanessa Kirby his wife Josephine.
