The results are in: The same number of people who last watched Dancing with the Stars on ABC in 2021 came back to watch the September 26 season premiere.
According to Live+3 results from Nielsen, 6.50 million viewers tuned in to watch Matt Walsh become the first celebrity to get the old heave-ho from the ballroom. The hourlong premiere averaged a 1.08 rating among adults 18-49.
ABC says the premiere held even with the series’ prior season on ABC in fall 2021, when it averaged 6.50 million viewers. (The competition show moved to Disney+ for Season 31 where — quelle surprise — viewership numbers were never released to inquiring reporters.)
DWTS grew by 1.72 million total viewers on Sept. 26 and jumped 69% in the demo from Live+Same Day to multi-platform 3-day. DWTS also streams on Disney+ and Hulu.
This week is Latin night in the ballroom for the 13 remaining couples. There will be an opening number to “Despechá” by Rosalia.
