upcoming co-host of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” and Skylar Astin, the star of CBS’ “So Help Me Todd,” have been tapped to host “The Tony Awards: Act One,” a live pre-show that will offer exclusive content to Pluto TV viewers on Sunday.Hough, who starred in the play “POTUS” last season, and Astin, who originated the role of Georg in the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical Spring Awakening, will kick off Broadway’s biggest night with the presentation of the first round of Tony Awards from 6:30-8:00 PM ET/3:30-5:00 PM PT.Viewers can access “The Tony Awards: Act One” on their smart TV, streaming device, mobile app or online by going to Pluto TV and clicking on the “Pluto TV Celebrity” channel. No payment, registration or sign-in is required.Following the pre-show, the 76th Annual Tony Awards, which will be hosted by Academy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Ariana DeBose, will air live on CBS Television Network from the historic United Palace in New York City’s Washington Heights from 8:00-11:00 PM ET/5:00-8:00 PM PT.
The ceremony will also stream live and on demand on Paramount+. The Writers Guild of America, which launched a strike on May 2 after failing to reach an agreement in contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, is allowing the Tony Awards to move forward after the ceremony’s production team agreed to alter this year’s show to conform with specific requests from the guild.

76th annual Tony Awards, returning host Ariana DeBose addressed the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike with studios during what normally would have been a traditional song-and-dance-filled opening monologue. Instead, a planned performance written by Lin-Manuel Miranda was scrapped while the ceremony was allowed to go forward with live performances of nominated musicals and the handing out of awards, but with no scripted material.DeBose opened the show by opening up a blank script, which appeared to be no problem for the seasoned performer who danced her way on-stage to a jazzy medley of pre-existing Broadway hits, reimagined and newly orchestrated, thus not crossing the picket line of script writing, or rather, lyric writing.Macy Schmidt and Benjamin Rauhala constructed and arranged the medley after Miranda pulled the song he was working on for the opening number, in solidarity with the WGA strike.The dance and music-forward number was met with a standing ovation from the crowd, which proved that no words were needed to kick off the big night.After kicking off her dancing shoes, DeBose addressed the audience, «Well, well, well, DeBose began.
