Cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy, 47, reveals 'shock' cancer diagnosis

Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy has revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer. In a message to fans on Instagram tonight (February 16), he told followers the diagnosis was a 'huge shock', but he currently feels 'fine' and intends to work this year.
"I have a bit of news," he wrote. "Last year I was diagnosed with cancer, which came as a huge shock, having had no symptoms up to that point.
"I'm currently receiving treatment including chemotherapy, which thankfully is going really well. I'd like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals for their amazing help and care."

The 47-year-old, and six-time Olympic champion, previously lived in Salford while training at Manchester's velodrome. The Edinburgh-born cyclist is also an 11-time world champion.
He retired from cycling in April 2013. Sir Chris told social media followers he was 'optimistic, positive and surrounded by love', for which he was 'truly grateful'.
He added: "As you might imagine, the last few months have been incredibly difficult. However, I currently feel fine - I am continuing to work, ride my bike and live my life as normal.
"It's an exciting year of work ahead, not least with the Paris Olympics in July. I can't wait to get stuck in, have fun and share it with you all."
Sir Chris added that he had wanted to keep the diagnosis private, but his 'hand has been forced' in revealing the news. He wrote on Instagram: "For the sake of my young family, I had hoped to keep this information private but regrettably our hand has been forced.
