CPH: DOX Sets 2023 Main CompetitionThe Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, affectionately known as CPH: DOX, has set the full lineup for its 2023 edition. This year, the festival will screen more than 200 new documentaries, with over 100 world premieres – the largest number at CPH: DOX. Christoffer Guldbrandsen’s long-awaited film A Storm Foretold about Donald Trump’s former adviser Roger Stone will debut at the fest alongside a new doc by One Child Nation director Lynn Zhang. This year CPH: DOX also celebrates 20 years. Guests set to visit include Wim Wenders, Joan Baez, Nathan Fielder, and Jeremy Deller. You can check out the full lineup here.
Norway’s Rubicon TV Hires ‘Headhunters’ Writer Lars GudmestadNorwegian scripted outfit Rubicon TV has hired writer and producer Lars Gudmestad as Executive Producer. He will begin the position in April 2023. Gudmestad has worked extensively across film and TV, with credits on productions like Morten Tyldum’s Buddy and 2011’s Headhunters. Prior to joining Rubicon, Gudmestad was a writer and development producer at Feelgood and Fantefilm. Ivar Køhn, CEO of Rubicon TV said: “We are incredibly happy that Lars will now be part of our creative team. We strongly believe in having writers in the role of executive producers and having Lars in this new position will strengthen our opportunities to create original series for an ever-evolving market.”
Electric Entertainment’s The Ark Lands German DistributionNBC Universal Global Networks Germany has picked up Electric Entertainment’s latest Sci-Fi series, The Ark. Charna Flam Outfest has announced the lineup for its 2023 Outfest Fusion QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous and People of Color) Film Festival, which will run from March 24 through April 2. Outfest Fusion will be celebrating its 20th anniversary by showcasing LGBTQIA+ filmmakers and their various films depicting queer and transgender stories. There will be nine features, including two 2023 Sundance documentaries, “Little Richard: I Am Everything” from Lisa Cortés and “The Stroll” from Kristen Lovell and Zackary Drucker. Cortés documentary explores how Richard “Little Richard” Penniman worked through his struggles with his sexuality, all while he made his mark on rock n’ roll. While Lovell and Drucker follow transgender women of color as they detail the community’s history of sex work in New York City.

For the first time, all 13 films competing for the top Dox:Award are world premieres. These include “A Storm Foretold,” the long-awaited doc on Donald Trump’s former adviser Roger Stone by Danish political journalist Christopher Guldbrandsen; established filmmaker Margreth Olin’s highly anticipated epic film “Songs of the Earth”; “A Tiger in Paradise,” a surreal journey into Swedish singer José González’ inner world by Ruben Östlund’s regular creative partners Mikel Cee Karlsson and Erik Hemmendorff; and “Total Trust” by Jialing Zhang (“One Child Nation”), described as “the first major film about the Chinese surveillance state (…) – a disturbing tale of technology, (self-) censorship and abuse of power in the 21st century.”

William Earl A new music venue is coming to Los Angeles courtesy of Teragram and Moroccan Lounge owner Michael Swier, in partnership with Another Planet Entertainment (APE). The Bellwether, billed as a multi-genre live music and nightlife destination, will be located at 333 S. Boylston St. and is scheduled to open this spring. Swier’s credits include co-founding Bowery Presents, and operating venerable downtown New York City venues Mercury Lounge and Bowery Ballroom, and founding The Bowery Presents. Another Planet is a well-respected independent promoter which co-produces the annual Outside Lands and Life Is Beautiful music festival, and operates such venues as the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, the Fox Theater in Oakland, Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys, the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and The Independent in San Francisco, Oxbow RiverStage in Downtown Napa and more.

Luchetti previously directed Germano in the drama “Our Life” in a role that in 2015 won the actor top honors in Cannes. Vision Distribution is launching sales on “Trust” at the European Film Market. In “Trust” Giordano (first look image, above) plays a teacher in his forties named Pietro Vella who works in a rundown Roman high school. He strongly believes he can help students strive for a better future and Teresa, and bright and rebellious student, is totally taken with him and his lessons. Then, a few years later, they meet up again and get romantically entangled. Teresa insists they must share their deepest secrets to bond for life. But as soon as Pietro really opens up, the relationship ends.
