Coronation Street star Bill Fellows confirmed the sad news that his pal and co-star Chris Gascoyne would be stepping back from his role as Peter Barlow.
It was initially reported that the soap star was leaving the show for "an extended break" after more than two decades on the cobbles. Chris, 55, first appeared as fan favourite Peter in 2000 and made a permanent return in 2016 following multiple exits over the years.
Corrie actor Bill admits he is sad about Chris' looming exit from the ITV soap, despite not much being known about his departure from Weatherfield. Bill, who plays Stu Carpenter, says he's keen to film scenes with Chris and soap legend Bill Roache before they move on from the programme.
Speaking to The Mirror, Bill said: "I've already had scenes with Ken played by Bill Roache, which is great. There's loads of characters I'd like to do a scene with. I really do like working with Bill I have to say.
"A very good friend of mine who I've had very little to do with is Chris Gascoyne but unfortunately he is leaving, it's sad but hopefully I will have a few little things with him [before he goes], but everyone is so good and so nice."
It was revealed in July that actor Chris would leave the role again, although ITV haven't officially confirmed the news yet. A source added that Chris had decided to "take an extended break" from the soap but hadn't quit for good.
It's not known when or how Chris will be departing the show, but he is set to ditch the soap for Saint Albans ahead of the upcoming pantomime season and will now be appearing at The Alban Arena.
The theatre confirmed: "The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter
