Coronation Street actress Sally Carman, who plays troubled Abi Webster, has spoken out on the latest twist in her character’s surprise baby storyline. Soap fans watched as Abi gave birth to a premature baby boy, only to flee shortly after and return to the cobbles, abandoning her newborn at the hospital.
Now, Sally, 40, has spoken out about Abi’s spiralling behaviour, explaining that her ITV soap alter-ego is “not in her right mind” and is acting erratically as she’s not sure what to do. Sally explained: “Abi goes back to Weatherfield because she's in such denial.” “She thinks she can shut that down and get away with it by just carrying on with what she was doing before.
She's clearly not thinking straight.” Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter The soap star, who is engaged to her co-star Joe Duttine, continued: “Abi is in a really bad way emotionally, mentally and physically, so she's not in her right mind.” While Abi is trying to hide the ordeal she has experienced, and continues as though nothing has happened, it’s bound to be with its challenges. However, the popular actress has explained that Abi doesn’t feel like she is fit to be a mother to her newborn son, after giving up her twins and losing eldest son Seb when he was tragically murdered.
Speaking about whether Abi could return to reunite with her baby, Sally said: “She doesn't feel it's an option.” “There's no point. She doesn't want that, she can't deal with that, and she doesn't feel she has anything to offer.” Sally added: “Abi thinks it's already been proven three times that she hasn't got it in her to open her heart in that way.
