Corey Taylor has spoken to NME about finishing the recording his “darker, heavier” solo album ‘CMF2’. Check out exclusive photos from the sessions below, alongside our interview with Taylor.The follow-up to 2020’s ‘CMFT’ was first teased earlier this year, with Taylor telling fans they weren’t ready for the “bigger, better” album. Speaking to NME, Taylor has now promised that ‘CMF2’ is “going to be the best rock album of this year, and the next.”“I can’t wait for people to hear this album,” he said.
“It chews up that first record and spits it out. It’s more dialled-in with everything people expect from me, so it’s got hints of ‘CMFT’ but there are also hints of Slipknot, Stone Sour and all the stuff I’ve done in my acoustic shows. It’s got everything for everybody.
People are going to fucking lose it.”The “darker, heavier” collection of songs will feature tracks written across Taylor’s career. “Some fans will recognise a few from other projects that I’ve done while others were written just before we went into the studio,” he said.“I was really inspired by my band, but also the reaction that the first solo run had, where people leaned into everything,” he continued. “They liked the acoustic stuff, they liked the heavy stuff, they liked the fun stuff.
We wanted to make a hybrid thing, but not have it feel chaotic.”Speaking about the success of his debut solo album, Taylor said that “it definitely emboldened me to run even further. Gina Birch of post-punk pioneers The Raincoats has spoken to NME about the release of her long-awaited debut solo album ‘I Play My Bass Loud’, and what to expect from her upcoming live shows.The musician, visual artist and filmmaker released her solo debut last month via Third Man Records and is set to kick off some UK live dates later this month. “It’s thrilling – it’s nothing I thought I’d be doing this time last year,” Birch told NME of going it alone.She compared the feeling to a point in the early 1990s, when she had thought she had turned her back on performing in order to focus on her work directing music videos for other bands (she would go on to work with The Libertines, New Order, Beth Orton and more).“I was in the edit suite, I think I was working on a video for The Pogues, and the phone rang,” she recalled. “It was [music agent] Russell Warby, who asked, ‘Would The Raincoats like to go on tour with Nirvana?’ It seemed mad, like ‘I’m making films, what the fuck?’ But it also seemed mad not to do it.

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has spoken about three bands that he feels are doing great things for heavy music today.Speaking to NME about his upcoming “darker, heavier” solo album ‘CMF2’, Taylor opened up about what listeners can expect, including hearing influences from different decades of music.“There’s also ‘90s grunge, ‘70s punk and the hard-hitting shit that I helped create in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, he said. “It’s a bit of everything, but it was important for us to make it feel fresh.”He continued: “The stuff that largely inspires me comes from the stuff I grew up listening to; street hip-hop, punk, metal and all the shit that feels like it came from someplace that I can relate to and identify with.”However, Taylor made note of some newer bands, where “you can feel them leaning into the passion.”“Turnstile are fucking amazing,” he said.

J-Hope, a member of K-pop supergroup BTS, has cancelled his request to delay enlistment in Korea’s mandatory military service, according to the group’s agency Big Hit Music.
Thania Garcia J-hope of BTS has become the second member of the K-pop group to begin his mandatory military service in South Korea. The 29-year-old singer had previously applied for an enlistment postponement but a new statement from Big Hit Music (the band’s label) explains that he has since pulled that request and will enlist in the military. “We would like to inform our fans that j-hope has initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement,” said the note posted to Weverse, Hybe’s global fan community platform.
