The family’s spokesperson, Jarel Posey told TMZ that the family just learned that Coolio died from fentanyl, and was also found to have heroin and methamphetamines in his body at the time of his death as well.
His asthma and cigarette use also was a contributing factor in his passing, Posey continued.
The CDC says that “pharmaceutical fentanyl is a synthetic opioid, approved for treating severe pain,” and it is “50 to 100 times more potent than morphine.”
However, there are many cases of “fentanyl-related harm, overdose, and death in the U.S.” that are directly related to “illegally made fentanyl. It is sold through illegal drug markets for its heroin-like effect. It is often mixed with heroin and/or cocaine as a combination product—with or without the user’s knowledge—to increase its euphoric effects.”
Our continued thoughts are with Coolio‘s friends, family, and loved ones during this time. RIP.
