UPDATED, EXCLUSIVE: We heard whispers about this at CinemaCon last week and sources have solidified for us: Hollywood’s famed and historic Cinerama Dome’s reopening is looking more and more like 2024. Essentially, there’s still more work to be done on the Sunset Blvd venue. The delay will come as a great upset to those indie distributors who’ve savored the venue as a launchpad in Los Angeles.
The pandemic didn’t just see the closure of the Cinerama Dome and the Arclight chain, but other prime arthouses such as Landmark’s crown Pico Blvd. jewel location. Landmark recently announced they’re taking over the AMC Sunset Blvd Dine-In and re-opening it this summer.
In the wake of the Dome’s closure, AMC Burbank and Century City locations have served as hubs for primo-indie debuts, i.e. A24’s Beau Is Afraid saw both those multiplexes as its top theaters in LA during its opening weekend with respectively $68K and $50K.
PREVIOUSLY, Sept 16, 2022: For those who forgot to read the news on Deadline back in December, it was never, ever in the cards for the Cinerama Dome to reopen this year. Like, never ever. 2023 was always the eyed date.
The Dome’s owners are doing a full refurbish of the venue, top to bottom. There’s no immediate reopening date yet, but it was never going to be this year. Ever. Even if they did post a liquor-license renewal outside the door. Whenever this grand historical cinema palace decides to reopen, don’t worry, you’ll see rockets’ red glare from as far away as the Valley.
PREVIOUSLY, Dec. 17: The Cinerama Dome isn’t opening anytime soon, so hold off on reserving those seats.
Despite news about the Dome’s owners renewing a liquor license at the 58-year old Sunset Boulevard movie house, Deadline has learned there

Thania Garcia When Feid started preparing for his second headlining trip around the United States, he wanted to make sure audiences felt and saw a difference between what was his first “U.S. Trip” and 2023’s “Ferxxo Nitro Jam Underground Tour.” That goal sent the Colombian artist and his creative team back to the drawing board — but not with the intention of a restructure, Feid says, but rather an enhancement. On the night of April 27, Feid pulled out all the stops during his performance at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theatre — the fifth show of his freshly launched 29-city trek across the states.
