The warm weather is great for many reasons, but one downside is the amount of insects that are more commonly found.
Ants are a particularly annoying problem during the summer, as the hot temperatures drive them indoors in search of food.
They're hugely attracted to spillages, waste and anything sticky, so people should take care to keep their kitchen or any other areas as clean as possible to stop the pests from invading.
But if that hasn't worked and you're still finding the pesky insects around the house, certain natural ingredients can help to deter ants as they "hate" the aromas, the Express reports.
Dominic Lees-Bell, cleaning expert at kitchen and bathroom retailer, Tap Warehouse, said: "With ants reproducing rapidly, it’s important to know what is drawing them in and what you can do to prevent this.
"Food is one of the biggest attractions for ants so get into the habit of cleaning up any spillages, waste or anything sticky as soon as you can."
As well as keeping your space clear of any mess, using certain scents can also help to keep ants away.
One of the scents that ants supposedly hate is peppermint, so using this oil can be a really handy method to get rid of them.
Just mix 10 to 15 drops of peppermint oil into a cup of water and then pour it into spray bottles, using them on any affected areas of your home.
The expert added: “It’s a cheap and easy solution and most homeware stores and pharmacies will sell peppermint oil. Scatter some fresh mint around your home too - they won’t be a fan of this either."
Another natural ant repellent is lemons, according to the expert.
You can place the peels near any entry points that ants are coming in, and the bitter smell should drive them away.
