According to Prince Harry, Charles made a brutal joke to his mother, Princess Diana, moments after he was born in September 1984. Harry wrote about this situation in his memoir, Spare - a jibe at the term "an heir and a spare" - which refers to the ascendance of Prince William to the throne after his dad, reports the Mirror.
The Duke of Sussex wrote how this term has been around him from the moment he was born, as he claimed his father said to Diana: "Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare. My work is done."
Spare included many controversial stories about the Royal Family, including the claim that Harry was physically attacked by his brother William in a heated row over Meghan Markle back in 2019.
The Duke of Sussex wrote that an alleged confrontation with his elder brother at his London home in 2019 left him with a visible injury to his back.
Harry wrote that the Prince of Wales grabbed him by the collar and ripped his necklace off, before pushing him to the floor. He further claimed that his brother called his wife "difficult, rude and abrasive" - comments which the younger brother said parroted "the press narrative" about his wife.
The passage then continues: "But William, Harry says, was not being rational, leading to the two men shouting over each other. Harry then accused his brother of acting like an heir, unable to understand why his younger brother was not content to be a spare."
Insults flew between the brothers, before William claimed that he was only trying to help, which Harry said he found incredulous, which allegedly caused William to become angry.
