Cash App founder Bob Lee has been killed.
The 43-year-old founder of the popular cash exchange platform, who was working as chief product officer of crypto company MobileCoin, was the victim of a stabbing in San Francisco, according to local reports.
A man was found stabbed early on Tuesday (April 4) downtown in the city around 2:35 a.m., according to the San Francisco Police Department. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, they added.
Authorities did not name the man, but sources have since identified Bob Lee as the victim to NBC Bay Area.
MobileCoin’s Josh Goldbard said in a statement on Wednesday (April 5) that Bob “passed away yesterday” without specifying the cause of death.
“Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature. Bob was the genuine article. He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”
No arrests appeared to have been made as of yet, via NBC News. Tributes are pouring out on social media.
He was the first chief technology officer at former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey‘s Square. He previously worked at Google, where he helped develop Android.
He is survived by his wife, Krista, and their two children.
