A car has erupted in flames on a busy road in Ayrshire. The alarm was raised shortly after 5.30pm on Thursday, September 29 when emergency services were alerted to a blaze having taken hold on the A78 near Troon.
Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sped to the scene, where a motor was discovered to have caught fire. Shocking photos taken at the site, which were shared on social media, show the inferno in full swing.
The charred vehicle appears to have been pulled into a layby, as it is parked stationary out the way of traffic, but seems to have been completely destroyed in the heart-stopping event.
Plumes of smoke billow from the abandoned car, while a tailback forms dangerously close to the incident. A fire engine sits a few yards away from the burning wreck, while at least to hero firefighters prepare to tackle it.
A blue-lit cop car is also parked nearby, with at least one officer standing in the middle of the road, presumably diverting drivers from the area. It is believed no one was hurt.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were made aware of a car fire on the A78 near Troon around 5.35pm on Thursday, 29 September. There were no reports of any injuries and the vehicle was removed."
