Caleb McLaughlin Is More Than Just Lucas from Stranger Things

Stranger Things, the smash hit sci-fi series he’s starred in for the last six years. Now, for his latest role, the 21-year-old is returning to high school, though under vastly different circumstances. McLaughlin plays Lil Dru in Shooting Stars, Peacock’s new film about the dynamic between LeBron James and his high school teammates, a group of friends collectively known as the Fab Four. Shooting Stars, now streaming, is based on the four-time NBA MVP’s 2009 memoir of the same name, which James co-wrote with Buzz Bissinger. In the film, McLaughlin plays Dru Hill III, a.k.a.
Lil Dru, a close friend of James. “I wasn’t able to speak to LeBron at all for the project, but I was able to speak to Dru because he was in Cleveland [where the movie was filmed],” McLaughlin told Glamour.
“When he came on set, I got his number and we spoke on the phone for a couple of hours. I asked him about his dynamic with LeBron and the other guys—even how he felt about himself.”McLaughlin’s preparation for the role didn’t stop there.
He opened up about having a basketball coach on set who coordinated the actors' game scenes, and credits his background as a dancer for his coordination skills.
