ITV has decided to remove Britain's Got Talent from its schedule next weekend, in an attempt to avoid a 'ratings war' with the Eurovision Song Contest. On Saturday, May 11, the popular talent show will be replaced by the Bond film Casino Royale, with BGT set to return on Sunday night, May 12. OK! has reached out to ITV for comment.
The upcoming weekend will see more auditions on BGT, following its return to screens last month.
So far, four golden buzzers have been awarded by the judging panel. Judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, Simon Cowell and Bruno Tonioli have already been left speechless by the talent showcased across the country. This isn't the first time the show has been rescheduled to avoid clashing with Eurovision - the Song Contest on rival channel BBC consistently attracts more viewers, reports the Daily Record.
In the most recent episode, Simon Cowell awarded a golden buzzer to Japanese dance troupe Cyberagent Legit, who will now proceed straight to the semi-finals.
The Eurovision Song Contest will air on Saturday, May 11, with live coverage from Malmo arena in Sweden starting at 8pm and is expected to continue well past 11pm. Both semi-finals will also be broadcast on BBC One, with the first one scheduled for May 7 and the second one set for May 9. Representing the UK in Eurovision this year is Years and Years star Olly Alexander, who'll be performing his song Dizzy.
However, according to the betting odds, he's ninth most-likely to win the competition. The British pop star is trailing behind a number of other countries in the odds, with Croatia most likely to emerge as the Eurovision victor with odds of 2/1. Switzerland is in second place with odds of 7/2 while Ukraine is in third with 4/1.
