‘Boy Swallows Universe’ Trailer: Travis Fimmel Stars In Netflix Coming-Of-Age Family Drama Series

So the rumors from earlier this year are true: Noah Baumbach is returning to Netflix for his next film. But the rumor mill got the leads of the film wrong or at least one-half of them.

BreAnna Bell A sci-fi series based on Martha Wells novels, “The Murderbot Diaries,” has landed at Apple TV+. Hailing from “About a Boy” creators Chris and Paul Weitz, “Murderbots” follows a self-hacking security android who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable “clients.” Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe. Alexander Skarsgård will lead the series and will serve as executive producer.

Macedonian Australian film director and screenwriter Goran Stolevski is quickly becoming quite the name and a prodigious one. While he may not have been on a lot of radars before, given he was working in short films and TV, but he caught everyone’s eye with 2022’s witch/metamorphosis horror “You Won’t Be Alone” starring Noomi Rapace, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival to much acclaim, with critics noting its Terrence Malick-like approach.

EXCLUSIVE: Fox has picked up psychological crime drama Murder in a Small Town, starring Rossif Sutherland (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Kristin Kreuk (Smallville), for the 2024-25 season. The network has acquired U.S. rights to the series, based on the “Karl Alberg” books by L.R. Wright,, which hails from head writer Ian Weir (Edgemont), director Milan Cheylov (The Cleaning Lady) and Canada’s Sepia Films in association with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment, the company of former USA Network President Jeff Wachtel.

There’s an argument to be made that thought-provoking writer/director Alex Garland is the most influential sci-fi filmmaker of his generation. He wrote Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later“(2002) and “Sunshine” (2007), Mark Romanek’s “Never Let Me Go” (2010), and “Dredd” (2012), and then he made the jump to directing with daring movies like “Ex-Machina,” “Annihilation” and the horror “Men” (not to mention the excellent futurism drama, “Devs” for FX).

It’s been said a million times already, but it remains true—some of the most interesting stories are being told on TV rather than in films. With the film industry becoming more and more reliant either on franchises and blockbusters or low-budget horror, there’s not a lot of space for the mid-budget adult drama.

Paramount+ has set January 25 for the premiere of Sexy Beast, the drama series prequel to the 2000 cult British gangster movie, starring James McArdle, Emun Elliott, Tamsin Greig, Stephen Moyer and Sarah Greene.
