Amazon Freevee‘s Boat Story from the producers of Fleabag has unveiled premiere date and trailer.
The BBC co-pro, which aired late last year in the UK, follows two strangers played by Daisy Haggard (Back to Life, Breeders) and Paterson Joseph (Wonka, Timeless) who can’t believe their luck when they stumble upon a shipwrecked boat full of cocaine. With each of them desperate for a fresh start, they agree to sell the drugs and split the cash, but on their tail are the police, masked hitmen, and a sharp-suited gangster known only as “The Tailor.” Haggard is well known in the U.S. after starring in Breeders for FX/Sky and Back To Life, another BBC comedy that was acquired by Showtime.
Boat Story from Fleabag producers Harry and Jack Williams will air on Freevee on March 12. It landed well critically in the UK and secured around 5M viewers per episode. Alongside Haggard and Joseph, the series ensemble includes Tcheky Karyo (The Missing, Baptiste), BAFTA-winner Joanna Scanlan (After Love, Notes on A Scandal), Craig Fairbrass (One Piece, Villain and Muscle), Phil Daniels (House of the Dragon, Quadrophenia) and Ethan Lawrence (Bad Education).
Jury Duty streamer Freevee came on board early to land the show a U.S. co-producer (it also has rights in Germany and will launch in the nation on April 18) and Jack Williams recently told Deadline the SVoD was “always supportive of our tone” on Boat Story. It was the Williams’ first attempt at directing.
The series is EP’d by Christopher Aird (Baptiste, Liar, The Tourist), Sarah Hammond (Back to Life, Fleabag, The Tourist) and Daniel Walker (The Tourist), with Tommy Bulfin and Nawfal Faizullah as executive producers for the BBC. Boat Story is produced by the Williams’ All3Media-backed
