January is shaping up to be a big streaming month.
According to Nielsen, seven titles passed the billion-minute threshold from January 15 to 21, which is a first for the weekly Top 10 reports.
It probably won’t shock anyone that Bluey was at the top of the list, considering there were 10 new episodes added to Disney+ during this interval. The series posted 1.5B minutes viewed, which is even more than last time new episodes were added.
Nielsen says more than half that viewing was for the 10 new episodes alone. A fairly impressive feat that continues to prove the power of kids content. The 2-11 demo was also responsible for more than 50% of overall Bluey viewing this week.
With the release of the Reacher Season 2, the series saw a 13% bump in viewing to accumulate 1.2B minutes viewed. In direct contrast with Bluey, the Prime Video series got nearly two-thirds of its viewing from the 50+ crowd.
This Is Us also marked a notable appearance on the overall list. The drama series made its way to Netflix on January 8, which certainly helped it gain more momentum. Across both Netflix and Hulu, This Is Us managed 929M minutes viewed, which was No. 7 on the overall list and No. 4 among acquired titles.
Peacock also earned two spots on the originals list, a rare feat for the NBCUniversal streamer. Ted came in at No. 7 with 429M minutes viewed, while The Traitors was at No. 8 with 402M minutes viewed.
The originals list also made a convincing case for the power of award shows, as The Bear came in at No. 9, more than six months after the release of Season 2, on the heels of the Emmy Awards.
Here is the full Top 10, with streaming service, title, number of episodes (“1″=feature film) and minutes of viewing:
