Bill Hader knows how to draw inspiration from real life.
The 44-year-old Barry actor revealed that Officer Slater from 2007′s Superbad was based on a real police officer who arrested him after a prank went awry.
“My dad did the classic ‘let me tell you something I did, but hey, you guys can’t do this,’ and we were like, ‘Uh-huh,’” Bill said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “He was like, ‘We used to take two trash cans and put fishing wire between ‘em and we’d put one on either side of the street and when a car goes through, the trash cans go bop on the side of the car. It was hilarious, but don’t do that.’ And we were like, ‘Okay!’”

“It’s really late at night. We’re at a park, we’re waiting, and here comes a car. I’m like, ‘Alright, ready, go!’ And we pull it up. The car goes through… It’s a cop car,” Bill said. “The rope is too long that the trash cans go behind the car and they bang into each other, so it looks like he just got married.”
“Everybody ran, but I was like, ‘Aww, I’m gonna be cool,’” he said. “So I went over to my car and was just smoking a cigarette, like, ‘Hey, what happened, officer?’”
“He was like, ‘F— you!’” Bill continued. “He had a flashlight and then he made me pick up beer cans. I got arrested afterwards.”
“That is the guy that I based my character in Superbad on,” Bill said. “I remember when I did that movie… and I go, ‘I got messed with by a cop with glasses,’
Superbad starred Michael Cera and Jonah Hill who navigate the last weeks of high school and are invited to a gigantic house party.
Bill recently explained why the show Barry will be ending after the upcoming fourth season.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Bill Hader is coming around to the idea of playing Stefon again. In a new interview with The Independent, the “Barry” creator said he “probably would” play the beloved “Saturday Night Live” character again despite telling The Guardian a year ago he’d probably be retiring the character because of stereotypes. Stefon is a flamboyant gay man who regularly appeared on “Weekend Update” to give depraved and deranged recommendations to tourists about things to do in New York City. “I’ve never had any gay man come up to me and be offended that I [played Stefon],” Hader told The Independent. “I’ve always had people come up and say how much they love those roles. Honestly, I don’t know why I said [I wouldn’t play him anymore]. I probably would play him. I think just being asked the question at that point in time kind of made me anxious.”
“Barry” may also be surprised to learn the cameo was del Toro’s idea – not that he thought it would actually happen. Creator and star Bill Hader says the “Pan’s Labyrinth” director has always been a fan of the HBO series, and told Hader at the end of Season 3 that he’d love to be in the show.“It just so happened we had a part of this guy who sets up Hank and Cristobal with Los Amigos Gadgets, so I thought that’d be great for Guillermo and then we named the character Toro,” Hader told TheWrap during our breakdown of Season 4, Episode 3.
