Beverley Callard rules out Corrie return and says she 'won't go back' to ITV soap

Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has officially ruled out any return to the soap in the future, revealing that it’s “just not me anymore”.The actress, who famously played Liz McDonald, left the cobbles in 2020 after 36 iconic years on the popular ITV soap. Despite many fans calling for her to return, Beverley has confirmed it won’t be happening. "I won't go back," she said.
"There's no doubt about that. It's just not me any more. Liz has run her course.
"Now, I can please myself if a script comes in and I want to do it, I can. While filming the soap, the 65 year old actress was forced to take two months off after she collapsed on set with severe clinical depression in 2016.The collapse had been caused due to the withdrawal of a medicine she had been taking to combat the debilitating condition after the company behind the medicine’s manufacture stopped making the drug, which she refused to name.Though she returned following the incident, things were never the same, with Beverly admitting she had grown to hate character Liz’s tight-fitting outfits.
She said of Liz's looks in 2018: "They are disgusting, sometimes I go into the dressing room and the clothes are there and they're just sort of laid on a chair for you to wear and sometimes I look and think 'I dare not set foot outside of this dressing room'.They are horrific."
