Actress Sherrie Hewson has teased a huge hint that popular ITV sitcom Benidorm will be making a return to TV as she shared a cryptic response to eagle-eyed social media fans.
The Benidorm legend, 73, seemingly suggested the show might be returning for a new series, six years after it was cancelled. Sherrie's cryptic comment comes just a few months after the creator behind the much-loved comedy hinted at a possible revival of the show, Derren Litten, teased that he's ready to write new episodes. Benidorm aired from 2007 until 2018, bagging numerous awards and nominations including NTAs and BAFTAs.
It even inspired a spin-off stage show, Benidorm Live, which ran in 2018 and 2019. A social media user questioned actress Sherrie online, saying: "Will there be another series of Benidorm, Joyce?" Her tell-all reply hinted at the show's future as she cryptically responded: "Never say never," followed by two heart emojis. Fans were quick to add their excitement and speculated that it could be true - with some adding that creator Darren Litten previously hinted that he's writing again.
One fan shared: "Ooo exciting. I know Derren is writing again!!!!. What a joy a s11 would be." While another replied: "God let it be true.." Sherrie played character Joyce Temple-Savage on the show who was the manager of the hotel.
Her character fell for the head barman Mateo Castellanos but she ended up marrying Monty Staines.
The show was a ratings success, often attracting audiences close to eight million. The cast included Jake Canuso, Siobhan Finneran, Steve Pemberton and Johnny Vegas. But Benidorm also had many guest stars during its 11-year run - including Su Pollard, Louie Spence, Shane Ritchie, The Krankies, and late EastEnders icon Wendy
