On Monday (June 20), the 56-year-old actor visited Ukraine as part of his work as a goodwill ambassador of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), touring occupied settlements in the Kyiv region.

In video footage of their meeting, the pair were seen greeting each other warmly before sitting down to discuss the needs of displaced Ukrainians.
“It’s one thing to see this destruction on TV or on social networks. Another thing is to see it all with your own eyes. That’s a lot more shocking,” Ben told Zelenskyy.
“What you saw in Irpin is definitely dreadful. But it is even worse to just imagine what is happening in the settlements that are still under temporary occupation in the east,” he replied.
According to ABC News, at one point during their meeting, Ben called Zelenskyy he was his “hero.”
“You’re amazing. You quit a great acting career for this,” he joked, as Zelenskyy quipped in response: “Not so great as yours.”
“No, but pretty great,” Ben replied. “But what you’ve done and the way that you’ve rallied the country and for the world, it’s really inspiring.”
