Beautiful town on the Thames an hour from London with one of UK's best pubs and where you may just spot George Clooney

untouched for two centuries in South London and it's full of famous landmarks from Big Ben to the London Eye. But it's extremely busy, too. We've all been there, rushing to get on a boiling-hot tube full to the brim with tired commuters.
Sometimes you want to get away, even just for the day. One place that makes for the ideal day trip is Henley-on-Thames, which is an hour's drive from the capital. Like London, this beautiful town is famous for quite a few things.
It was once home to famous artists George Harrison and George Orwell. It also hosts the Royal Regatta, an annual rowing event held on the River Thames. He arrived in the UK back in March to work as a director on his new film The Boys in the Boat, a film centred around rowing, starring Joel Edgerton, Hadley Robinson and Callum Turner. It's not just George Clooney's use of the Thames making the town famous. It's also home to some of the best pubs in the UK.
There's the Bottle & Glass Inn, a traditional country pub with original bricks, beams and flagstones. It's owned by Alex Sergeant and David Holliday, who own another Michelin-starred restaurant, so the food is exceptional too. There's also the Bistro at the Boathouse, a small, family-run Bistro, which is a big hit with Henley locals.
One diner took to TripAdvisor to say: "First class bistro in excellent surroundings. Varied and original menu, with good food. Service is to be applauded.
