Gene Reynolds, the prolific director, producer and writer who was a driving force behind such socially conscious television series as M*A*S*H, Lou Grant and Room 222, has died. He was 96.Reynolds died Monday at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, the DGA announced.Reynolds started out in Hollywood as a child actor at MGM in such movies as Boys Town (1938).

As a dignifying corrective to the demeaning portrayal of Bruce Lee on the Green Hornet set in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which let's face it, basically made him the butt of a white he-man joke, Be Water has value. But as a survey of the life and legacy of the hugely influential martial arts game-changer, Bao Nguyen's slickly packaged, engrossing bio-documentary for ESPN feels less than definitive.

Gabby Barrett won the hearts of country fans and beyond on Season 16 of American Idol in 2018. But as soon as the show was over (she placed third behind winner Maddie Poppe and runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson), she quickly realized that TV success didn’t necessarily translate to the real world.“It was actually really hard to get a record deal after American Idol,” Barrett admits to Billboard.

Even Meghan Markle feels like a fraud sometimes.

"Pinch me. This couldn’t have worked out better for this project," Byrne says.

Spike Lee has signed on to direct a film adaptation of David Byrne’s American Utopia, Deadline reports. The feature-length version of Byrne’s hit Broadway show is slated for a 2020 release, and will be executive produced by Participant alongside Byrne, Lee, and others. The film will be produced by Byrne’s Todomundo and Lee’s Forty Acres and a Mule Filmworks production companies, as well as RadicalMedia.

Spike Lee has signed on to direct a movie based on the Broadway show “David Byrne’s American Utopia” with Participant acting as lead financier and executive producer.
