Emily Maitlis has finally spoken out about the Netflix film 'Scoop', which dramatises her headline-making interview with Prince Andrew, but she's made a surprising confession she hasn't actually watched the controversial movie yet. The streaming giant dropped the film on Friday, and it's been getting mixed reactions.
The flick stars Gillian Anderson, 55, as Emily, 53, while Rufus Sewell, 56, steps into the shoes of Prince Andrew, 64.
'Scoop' also features Billie Piper, 41, in the role of producer Sam McAlister, who is known for nailing down the interview and penned the book 'Scoops', which reportedly inspired the Netflix offering. Currently busy with an Amazon three-part series about the same Royal interview, Emily chatted with Deadline about the Netflix portrayal.
She's kept her distance from the 'Scoop' project, feeling that the creators should have their own space, and she reckons there's enough room in the market for both versions to coexist. Her take on the matter, reports the Express.
was: "I've left [those behind Scoop] very much to do their own thing because I think the last thing they want is me peeking around the edges offering my [views]. It says it's based on a fictional account, so I think it goes into different places and it does different things [to the Amazon series]." For those tuning in, Netflix gives viewers a heads-up with a disclaimer at the start of 'Scoop': "This film is based on real events - however certain elements have been fictionalised for dramatic purposes." Although she admitted to not watching 'Scoop' before it landed on screens, Emily playfully hinted that she might catch up "at some stage", and gave a shout out to her ex-colleague Sam who has taken the story to "new heights".
