Gardening expert Monty Don has advised people on how to reduce water waste whilst tending to their plants outside.
Even though the heatwave has now come to an end, the weather's unpredictability means we could be seeing sweltering temperatures once again before the summer is over.
And although hosepipe bans aren't as common in Scotland compared to the rest of the UK, it's always a good idea to try and reduce the amount of water waste that you generate when caring for your garden.
One of the ways that you can do this is by hanging on to your old sink water left over from washing the dishes, as this can be used to sprinkle over plants - but only certain types.
Birmingham Live reports that Monty, star of BBC Gardeners' World, offered his advice for reducing water waste during the heatwave we saw last summer.
He said: "I’m clutching a bowl of washing up water - grey water - because in the very dry conditions we've had you need to use whatever water you can. Grey water, whether it's washing dishes or yourself, is perfectly good on floral plants.
"Don't use it on edible food."
Monty added: “Let it cool down of course, and I've got it here for this clematis. But because it's a young plant, it means that its root system is fairly small. So, therefore, it's not able to access the moisture that might be deeper down in the soil, so I'm having to make sure it is really well-watered.
“And clematis is one of those plants that really needs water. So grey water is perfect for them.”
Monty isn't the only one who has been offering his tips to help people get the most out of their gardens this summer.
