BBC Garden Rescue's Charlie Dimmock has confessed she has 'no regrets' over her affair with a co-star that led to the end of her relationship with long-term partner John Mushet. Charlie, who is now hosting the new BBC show Garden Rescue, became a household name while presenting Ground Force alongside Alan Titchmarsh and Tommy Walsh from 1997 to 2005, with the show attracting up to 12 million viewers at its peak. In 2001, during her stint on Ground Force, it was revealed that Charlie had been having an affair with microphone operator Andy Simmons, leading to her split with John.
The now 57 year old presenter admitted that she no longer sees Andy but doesn't regret what happened. Speaking in 2002, she said: "But I don't regret what happened. You wouldn't do anything if you kept worrying about what might go wrong.
"John and I had been together for a long time so when we split up, I relied heavily on family and close friends. I've discovered that the most difficult after-effect of the break-up is getting into another relationship," reports the Mirror. Following her split from Andy, Charlie dated another member of the Ground Force team, sound technician Barry Smith.
However, tragedy struck in 2004, during the final year of filming for the BBC show, when Charlie's mother and stepfather were killed in the Boxing Day Tsunami in Thailand. Charlie's agent was quoted at the time as saying: "It is very upsetting for her. It has been too soon for her to come to terms with it.
