Escape to the Country viewers were left stunned earlier this week when a young couple revealed they had a staggering budget to spend on their first shared home. Anna and Jack, who are engaged and share a dog, Dexter, appeared on the BBC show to find their first home together in Buckinghamshire, and admitted they had a hefty pot of £850,000 to put towards it.
Anna, a civil servant, and Jack, a consultant, who each own a flat in St Albans, were excited to buy their dream home, and were looking for somewhere with lots of outdoor space, four bedrooms, a utility room, and a big kitchen. They also hoped to live near a local pub, which they see as the heart of the community.
Show host Briony May helped the couple look for their first shared home in the countryside but as the show aired, it was their staggering budget which caused quite a stir online. After being branded 'privileged' and 'spoiled' by BBC viewers, Jack has since made a heartbreaking confession about where their money came from.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, the Escape to the Country guest admitted that the money came from inheritance. Jack also criticised UK house prices, saying it's almost impossible for first-time buyers to buy a home these days without a big amount of savings.
"The real story here is that a budget of £850,000 doesn't even get you the average detached house in Buckinghamshire, which comes in at £881,368, according to the show.
