Sally Nugent was left in stitches on BBC Breakfast as her co-host Jon Kay opened up about death of his pet rabbit.
The pair fronted the show on Tuesday, 26 March together, and discussed the day's newspaper headlines. Sally, 52, and Jon, 54, were discussing a story about pet retailers banning the sale of rabbits over the Easter period due to a rise in purchases during the holiday, with owners unable to keep the pets for life. Many rabbits are often left abandoned despite shops insisting the animals are 'for life'.
As they discussed the topic, Sally quizzed Jon over his own pets. She quipped: "I bet you had a bunny as a kid." Jon admitted he did have a beloved rabbit as a child, who was called Hazel. Sally jokingly asked her co-host if his bunny was "for life" as the conversation took a morbid turn.
Looking down, Jon responded: "Not anymore. Please not this morning, it's too raw." Sally then struggled to remain composed as she giggled. She added: "Oh, stop! Why Hazel?" Jon went on explain that he thought the named had been chosen because of the film Watership Down.
He then joked he should have seen the tragic end coming, due to the end of the movie. He said: "I think it was Watership Down. But of course that didn't end well either!" Sally then tried to end the conversation, as she added: "That didn't end well! Aww Jon, should we finish on high?" It comes after BBC Breakfast received backlash from viewers due to a segment about Kate Middleton.
