Labour has retained control of Barnsley council in the 2024 local elections. The party's majority on the council has not changed.
Labour won 17 seats of the 21 seats which were being contested in the election. The Liberal Democrats won four seats.
A third of the 63 seats on the council were up for election in this year's ballot. After the 2024 results, Labour now has a total of 48 councillors on Barnsley council, which is the same number of councillor as before the election.
The party has retained a majority of 33 seats over the opposition parties.
The Liberal Democrats have 11 councillors, which is one more than the previous local election. There are two Independents and the Conservatives have one councillor, which is down by one.
Reform now has one seat on the council, which is no change on the previous local election.
Votes were held in all the 21 wards including Central, Dodworth, Kingstone, Stairfoot, Worsbrough, Dearne North, Dearne South, Darton East, Darton West, Old Town, St Helen's, Cudworth, Monk Bretton, North East, Royston, Penistone East, Penistone West, Darfield, Hoyland Milton, Rockingham and Wombwell. One seat was being contested in each area.

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council has been held by Labour since the council was formed in 1974. In 1994, Labour had 64 of the 66 seats on the council, giving them their largest majority on record.
The only time Labour's dominance has been threatened was in 2008 when the Barnsley Independent Group won 22 seats to Labour's 32. That was Barnsley Independent's peak though, and power has shifted back to Labour.
