Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic When the lineup for the 2024 Stagecoach Festival was announced earlier this month, Bailey Zimmerman’s name was up there on the second line, right beneath Morgan Wallen’s. It represented a heady move up into the big leagues (and big fonts) for a 23-year-old who had only the most scant awareness that there was such a thing as a country music industry a few short years ago.
Now, he’s had some of the biggest songs of the past year, not just in the country realm but on the all-genre charts, including the still-rising “Religiously,” the title song of his debut album. When “Religiously: The Album” came out in May, its first week won Zimmerman credit for having the biggest streaming debut album of the year in any genre up to that point in 2023, along with, not incidentally, the best streaming bow for any debut country album, ever.
Needless to say, he had a lot going for him already to arrive at that place: “Fall in Love” and “Rock and a Hard Place” had already both gone No 1 at country, and the latter entered the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 while spending six weeks atop the country airplay rankings. “Religiously” (the song) is about to give him a three-peat, from all indications.
He’ll be remembered as one of 2023’s breakout, whether or not he becomes the rare country performer to score a best new artist Grammy nomination. Also rare is the way Zimmerman has been an exception, not the rule, in parlaying being a smash on TikTok into becoming a smash by the standard measures of radio and streaming.

Daniel D'Addario Chief TV Critic Some 25 years ago, Todd Solondz had a hot hand, and he knew it. His film breakthrough, “Welcome to the Dollhouse,” was a Sundance sensation and a surprise hit — surprising, in part, because of its scabrous and brilliantly profane view of life among the petty thugs known as middle-schoolers. So he set out next to write a script as close to unproduceable as he could.
Laufey‘s new album ‘Bewitched’ has broken numerous records since it was released last month. The album broke a record on Spotify, recording the biggest first day for a jazz album on the streamer in history. It also debuted at Number 23 on the all-genre Billboard 200, marking Laufey’s first appearance on the chart, and is still comfortably sitting in the top 100 almost a month on from release. The album’s lead single ‘From The Start’ also proved massively successful, clocking up 1 million streams in less than 24 hours upon release and gaining a further 1.75million streams a day since. With that, it has become, currently, the most-streamed jazz song in the world.Speaking to NME The Cover earlier this year, Laufey explained why she was drawn to explore ideas about love, relationships and romanticising one’s own life on the album.““I think love makes everyone really silly,” Laufey says.

Jordan Moreau The “John Wick” movies are known for their high-octane, guns-blazing action on the big screen, but now the franchise is heading to Peacock — and about 50 years in the past — to explore its origins in “The Continental.” Across three episodes, the ’70s-set series dives into how a young Winston Scott (played by Colin Woodell) became the proprietor of the titular hotel, which is famous for throwing lavish parties and being a safe haven for assassins. But, as “John Wick” fans know, not everybody abides by the no-killing rule on Continental grounds. The show, which premieres on Peacock Friday, starts with a bang — actually, a lot of them — thanks to stunt coordinator Larnell Stovall.
