Venue38 are in the running for ‘Hi-Spirits Best Live Music Venue’ at this year’s Scottish Bar & Pub Awards. The grassroots music venue are up against spaces from Stirling, Paisley and Glasgow- including the city's prestigious King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut.
The awards, now in their 28th year, are Scotland’s longest-running licensed trade awards and are decided by a public vote. Venue38 bosses say they are ‘well chuffed’ to be up for the title, as since taking over the Carrick Street venue in 2020 they have passionately shone a spotlight on Ayrshire and small town venues.
Co-owner Tracy McGregor said of being shortlisted: “Delighted is an understatement. We have the judges visit tomorrow so we’re looking forward to that. It means a great deal to us to be nominated by everyone and to be in the top five. It makes all of our hard work worthwhile- and is a great showcase for Ayrshire and the local live music scene, which is our ethos with our Limelight nights and our community events.”
Venue38’s Limelight nights are dedicated to offering a platform to undiscovered talent, providing up and coming artists with the ‘big stage’ experience and professional sound and lighting systems to show off their skills.
Other community events throughout the year include their inclusive disability club night, Seen & Unseen, providing a fun clubbing experience for those with disabilities in an inclusive environment with full disabled access.
The next Seen & Unseen night takes place on Thursday, August 3 from 7pm - 10.30pm. Carers are also welcome to the event, alongside friends and supporters. Tickets are £5 online or on the door.
