Bill Nighy led stars walking the Oscars carpet wearing a blue ribbon to “commemorate” the millions of displaced people around the world.The veteran British star, who was nominated for the first time at the ceremony for Best Actor, joined Cate Blanchett in wearing the ribbon made by refugees as part of an initiative from the United Nations refugee agency, the UNHCR. Famous faces were invited to wear the ribbon as an “emblem of compassion and solidarity” for those who have been forced to flee their homes because of war, conflict and persecution. Asked by Sky News about the Oscars reportedly wanting to avoid politics this year, Nighy said: “120 million people being displaced and children being in terrible distress, I don’t think that is politics.

She’s tipped to become the fifth actress in history to win three or more Oscars at tonight’s ceremony, but for Cate Blanchett, her Hollywood career has come at a cost. The star recently laid bare the huge sacrifices she made for her most powerful – and controversial – role to date in psychological drama Tár. She had to live apart from her husband, Andrew Upton, 57, and their “extraordinary children” while she filmed in Asia and Berlin for more than two months.

Jenelle Riley Deputy Awards and Features Editor Cate Blanchett wore gold sequins and “Elvis” filmmaker Baz Luhrmann directed a group photo shoot at the Australian Oscars Nominees Reception held Thursday night in Hollywood at the Chateau Marmont penthouse. The guest list also included Oscar nominees from “Elvis,” including Luhrmann, DP Mandy Walker, costume designer Catherine Martin and producers Gail Berman, Schuyler Weiss and Patrick McCormick. Also joining in the festivities was filmmaker Lachlan Pendragon, director of “An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It,” which is nominated for best animated short film. The event was hosted by Australian Consul-General Los Angeles Ambassador Jane Duke, Ausfilm, Screen Australia and Australians in Film (AiF)

It also hosts fantastic Q&As that really dive deep into the acting process and for the recent SAG Awards, organizers hosted several panels with contenders in different categories. I was honored to moderate a few, including one for the lead female actor in a film with nominees Ana de Armas (“Blonde”), Cate Blanchett (“Tár”), Danielle Deadwyler (“Till”) and Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once).”

Fandom’s “Oscars According to Fans” survey reports that “Avatar: The Way of Water” takes the Oscar for Best Picture over “Top Gun: Maverick” if it were up to fans.James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel was the favorite of 15 states — such as Washington, Oklahoma, Illinois, New York and Alabama — while Tom Cruise’s equally long-awaited sequel took second place as the top film in 13 states including California, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, North Carolina and Maine among others.“Elvis” came in third place for fan votes to win Best Picture. Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis was the fan favorite of 9 states including Arizona, Mew Mexico, Minnesota and more, with 36% of voters picking him to win the Oscar for the Best Actor.

Swanky styles! Hollywood’s biggest stars went all out for the 25th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards on Monday, February 27 — and we can’t get enough.

So many big stars stepped out for the 2023 Costume Designers Guild Awards on Monday evening (February 27) at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

2023 SAG Awards on Sunday, but some fan-favorite shows and movies were shut out.The best actor in a film category was a tight race, but ultimately “Elvis” star Austin Butler lost to “The Whale” star Brendan Fraser.Fraser, 54, also scored an award at the Critics Choice Awards in January over Butler. The pair will duke it out again come March at the Oscars.However, the “Carrie Diaries” alum, 31, won the Golden Globe and BAFTA best actor awards earlier this year for his role as the King of Rock and Roll.“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” star Angela Bassett was also snubbed last night, despite earning a Golden Globe and being nominated for a BAFTA.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” could continue its momentum and win in several film categories, including Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Ke Huy Quan) and Outstanding Performance by a Cast. The multiverse-hopping indie directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert enters the evening with the wind at its back, having taken home the top prize on Saturday at the Producers Guild Awards, indicating that the zany film is not polarizing voters as much as some feared.

29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, honoring the best film and TV performances of the past year, were handed out live.For the first time since 1998, the ceremony was not broadcast on TV. Instead, it aired on Netflix's YouTube channel after it was announced that the platform will begin streaming the ceremony live in 2024, as part of a multi-year partnership with SAG-AFTRA. Going into the awards,  and both led with five nominations each, including four individual acting nods and one for ensemble.

The 29th annual SAG Awards are being handed out tonight in Los Angeles, and Deadline is updating the winners list live as they are announced. You can watch the ceremony via livestream here.

Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” lead the nominations, with both films earning five nods, including the highest honor of best ensemble. Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon,” Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” and Sarah Polley’s “Women Talking” round out the best ensemble category. “Ozark” led the TV field with four nods, with “Barry,” “Better Call Saul” and “Only Murders in the Building” each receiving three.
