Tameside MP and Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner has been appointed shadow levelling up secretary as part of a shadow cabinet reshuffle.
Rayner, who is the MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, will take the role on from fellow Greater Manchester MP Lisa Nandy, who represents Wigan in parliament. Nandy has been reappointed as has been appointed shadow cabinet minister for international development, in what will be seen as a 'demotion' from her previous role.
Sir Keir Starmer is carrying out a shadow cabinet reshuffle today, with a number of switches expected. The Labour leader is quoted as saying he has given Angela Rayner an 'important role' in his team.

"Keir is delighted that Angela has accepted this important role; in addition she will continue to be the strategic lead on Labour's new deal for working people," the Labour source is quoted as saying by the PA news agency.
Rayner has also been appointed shadow deputy prime minister.
Nandy will now take on the role of shadow cabinet minister for international development as part of Sir Keir Starmer’s reshuffle. The move will be seen as a demotion from her previous role as shadow levelling-up secretary as she no longer directly shadows a secretary of state.
Andrew Mitchell, who is responsible for international development in the Conservative Government, is a minister of state in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
Ms Nandy was one of Sir Keir’s rivals during the party’s 2020 leadership contest.
Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon has also announced he is stepping down as shadow environment secretary. In a letter to Sir Keir posted on X, the MP said he wanted to step back
