Amazon Freevee has given a greenlight to God. Family. Football., an unscripted, coming-of-age docuseries, from Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens’ Propagate, Watershed and Ascending Media Group.
God. Family. Football. follows former football player and high school football coach Denny Duron, who has come out of a 30-year retirement to lead the football program he founded at Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana, back to national prominence. With the perennial high school football powerhouse—14 State Championships in the last 20 years—coming off their worst season in school history, redemption is everyone’s goal. As the team faces struggle and triumph both on and off the field, they are united by Coach Denny’s formula for success: “God first, family second, and football third.”
God. Family. Football. will feature the personal stories of Evangel’s players, coaching staff, and the broader Shreveport community set against the backdrop of the 2022 Louisiana high school football season. The series is produced by Propagate, Watershed, and Ascending Media Group.
Evangel Christian Academy is a small private high school in northwest Louisiana, that has sent more football players to the NFL and NCAA Division 1 college football programs than any other high school in the state, according to producers. With a legacy that includes winning a National Championship and 29 District Championships, their combined 2020 and 2021 record of 3-16 represents their worst losing stretch in school history.
God. Family. Football. hails from Propagate and is executive produced by Silverman, Owens and Drew Buckley. The series was created and executive produced by Aaron Benward of Watershed. Ascending Media Group’s Jared Goetz also

Another rock star gets the Barbie treatment with a new Tina Turner doll from Mattel, announced today. The Tina Turner Barbie Doll, part of the toy company’s Music Series, features the Grammy-winning and chart-topping singer in the outfit she wore in the iconic music video for “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” pegged to the song’s 40th anniversary. She wears a black mini dress, a denim jacket, sheer black tights and black heels. The most notable part of the doll is Mini Tina’s signature volumized and textured hair, a style she often rocked throughout the ’80s as she rebranded herself as a solo act. “We used a lot of screen grabs to see the hair at all angles,” designer Bill Greening said in a statement. “Lots of teasing and hairspray was involved!” The track, which became the singer’s first and only No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart when it was released in 1984, was also the title of the 1993 biopic about Turner starring Angela Bassett. She took home three awards for the song at the 1985 Grammy Awards. “Barbie is proud to honor the unmatched career of the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n Roll’ with a @TinaTurner Barbie doll,” Mattel wrote on Instagram. “Collectors and music fans alike can celebrate the music icon with the new Signature #Barbie doll.” Mini Tina joins other doll-sized artists in the Music Series, such as David Bowie and Gloria Estefan. Katie Reul editor Two generations of children — and their parents — are familiar with the colossal purple dinosaur that frolicked across their television screens each week. The PBS series “Barney & Friends” amassed 14 seasons between 1992 and 2010 in the course of its lengthy run before coming to a flaming halt. The reasons for the show’s initial success and accursed demise are outlined in a two-part docuseries from director Tommy Avallone, titled “I Love You, You Hate Me,” which is available for streaming on Peacock on Oct. 12. With parallels to Sundance award-winner “Feels Good Man,” the 2020 indie documentary about Pepe the Frog that explores how a meme can be transformed from a comedic icon into a hate symbol, “I Love You, You Hate Me” delves into the lesser-known evils of the Barney bashing movement, when teenagers and adults alike began to bastardize the once-beloved character with acts of violence both physically and online.
