Both on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor and beyond, Amanda Abbington ’s biggest supporter is her fiancé Jonathan Goodwin. However, the Sherlock actress previously revealed the heartbreaking offer he made following a tragic incident that left him paralysed.
Their love story began in 2021, culminating in a swift engagement just days after their first meeting.
The couple's relationship has been marked by unwavering support, a commitment that faced a severe test in the wake of a life-altering accident. Only months into their whirlwind romance, Jonathan, a 43-year-old stuntman, found himself paralysed for life after a daring escapade went awry.
The incident, part of the now-axed series America's Got Talent: Extreme, involved attempting to escape from a straitjacket while hanging upside down 30 feet in the air.
Recalling the devastating aftermath, Amanda, 51, shared her initial shock: "[The stunt] was dangerous, but I knew Jonathan was a perfectionist so I didn’t think anymore about it. When I woke up the following morning, there was a voicemail from his stunt coordinator: 'Jonathan’s had an accident.
It’s not great news.'" Jonathan's injuries were extensive, including the loss of a kidney, broken shoulder blades, shattered legs, a broken spine, and a severed spinal cord. Facing the gravity of the situation, he offered Amanda an understanding way out, acknowledging the strain his condition might impose on their relationship.
The former stuntman revealed: "I said you have a get out of jail free card, if you want to walk away I understand and she told me not to be so stupid." Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, Amanda stood by him, emphasising that leaving was never an option.
