The Grateful Dead are set to share a series of previously unreleased concerts from 1973 in a new limited-edition boxset.Named Here Comes Sunshine 1973, the boxset will be comprised of 17 CDs, and feature audio from the group’s shows in San Francisco, Santa Barbara and two shows in Washington D.C.The concerts took place between May 13 and June 10, and remained unreleased up until now.Discussing the upcoming release, legacy manager David Lemieux described why the year was so important in the band’s career: “In my early tape-trading days, I only had a few 1973 shows, but my goodness, did I ever love them. There was a fresh, nimble feel that was entirely different from the 1972 Dead sound taking all of the great elements of the Year of Europe and building upon that excellence.”He continued: “Even with hundreds of tapes at my fingertips, I returned to these 1973 shows frequently.

Springer died peacefully in his home in Chicago, according to a statement from his family as reported by Cincinnati NBC affiliate WLWT5.The cable TV legend produced and hosted “The Jerry Springer” show from September 1991 to July 2018, airing 27 seasons and nearly 5,000 episodes. The tabloid talk show was best known for featuring dysfunctional family drama, frequent feuds bleeped out with obscenities, baby mama/father drama, the occasional nudity and fans roaring the refrain, “Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!” Broadcaster and New York Post columnist Piers Morgan recalled working with Springer on “America’s Got Talent,” whom he regarded as a “warm, funny man” on Twitter.

Talk show host Jerry Springer has died at the age of 79. Springer's publicist Linda Shafran confirmed his passing to Fox News Digital on Thursday morning.  "Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word," said Jene Galvin, a family spokesperson and friend of Springer's since 1970, in a statement. "He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on." Springer died peacefully at home in suburban Chicago after a brief illness, the statement said.

Harry Belafonte – the calypso singer best known for his signature song ‘Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)’, as well as his civil rights activism – has died at the age of 96.The veteran performer and civil rights activist passed away in his Manhattan home from congestive heart failure, as confirmed by spokesman Ken Sunshine to The New York Times.Belafonte began his career in the late-1940s, where it’s believed that his first-ever live performance was backed by jazz legends Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. His debut album, ‘Mark Twain and Other Folk Favourites’, was released via RCA in 1954.It was the release of his third studio album ‘Calypso’, however, that served as his breakthrough. Featuring ‘Day-O’ as its opening track, the album became his first to surpass one million sales.Belafonte was prolific through to the early ’70s, releasing two albums a year on average.

Martin Luther King Jr. (including speaking at the 1963 March on Washington) and other pivotal faces of the civil rights movement, standing up for migrant farmworkers, working in support of LGBTQ, or becoming a voice in South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement, Belafonte forged a strong commitment to activism. In fact, in 1968, Belafonte became the first Black person to helm a late-night talk show when he hosted for a week.

Born in Harlem on March 1, 1927, he was raised in Jamaica before returning to the Big Apple only to drop out of high school and enlist in the US Navy. Following his two-year stint, he was honorably discharged and went back to Manhattan.It wasn’t until later that his love for the arts shone through, and his frequent trips to a Harlem community theater enthralled him.

A.D. Amorosi Ahmad Jamal, one of the most elegant, eloquent and influential pianists and composers in modern jazz, died on Sunday, his wife, Laura Hess-Hey, and his daughter, Sumayah Jamal, told the Washington Pst. The pianist was 92 and died in Ashley Falls, MA, after a battle with prostate cancer. Renowned for his economical and deliberate style, Jamal – born Frederick Russell Jones in Pittsburgh on July 2, 1930 – was an inspiration to jazz giants such as McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Bill Charlap and Miles Davis. The latter famously recorded Jamal’s composition “New Rhumba” for his 1957 album “Miles Ahead.” In his 1989 autobiography, “Miles,” Davis stated that the pianist “knocked me out with his concept of space, his lightness of touch, his understatement, and the way he phrases notes and chords and passages.” Davis is also renowned for saying, “All my inspiration comes from Ahmad Jamal.”

The cause of death was prostate cancer, his daughter Sumayah Jamal told the New York Times.The late musician – known for his sparse, less-is-more playing style – received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Jazz Master award, and picked up a Lifetime Achievement Grammy for his contributions to music history.Jamal labelled jazz “American classical music”, and said that he liked to honour what he described as the spaces in the music.He began his seven-decade career in the genre as a teenager during the bebop era.However, Jamal’s musical style quickly evolved and became influential.

NEW YORK (AP) — Al Jaffee, Mad magazine's award-winning cartoonist and ageless wise guy who delighted millions of kids with the sneaky fun of the Fold-In and the snark of "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions," has died. He was 102. Jaffee died Monday in Manhattan from multiple organ failure, according to his granddaughter, Fani Thomson.
