Joe Otterson TV Reporter “9-1-1” has been renewed for Season 8 at ABC, Variety has learned. The news comes about two weeks after the Season 7 premiere, which marked the first season of the first responder drama to debut on ABC after it moved over from Fox. It also comes days ahead of the series’ 100th episode, which will air on Thursday at 8 p.m.
ET/PT on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu. Per ABC, the Season 7 premiere of “9-1-1” pulled in approximately 11.8 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days of availability, with the show ranking as the most-watched ABC current series across all platforms this season. “9-1-1” stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi, Aisha Hinds, Ryan Guzman, and Gavin McHugh.
It was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear. All three executive produce, with Minear serving as showrunner. Bassett and Krause also executive produce, along with John J.
Gray, Brad Buecker, Kristen Reidel, Juan Carlos Coto and Lyndsey Beaulieu. The series is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. Renewing “9-1-1” comes as little surprise given not only the show’s strong performance but also Disney’s desire to expand their work with Murphy after his recent move back to 20th Television following the end of his overall deal at Netflix.
ABC recently greenlit the drama series “Dr. Odyssey” from Murphy and co-creators Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, with Joshua Jackson set to star. Murphy, Baitz, and Baken are also working together on the FX series “Grostequerie” and a Hulu legal drama starring Kim Kardashian.
