Geordie Shore star Nathan Henry and Declan Doyle recently split up after taking a holiday together. A source said of the reasoning: "After their holiday to Mexico, the couple realised they were no longer compatible. They always say you never fully know each other until you live together." This isn't an unusual situation - in fact a recent study by This Morning found that 10% of couples break up before or on their first holiday together. Although the statistics may seem a little scary, Chartered Psychologist, Wellness Expert and author of The Leaders Guide to Resilience Dr Audrey Tang believes it can be a good thing.
"Spending 24/7 with someone is always very different to showing the highlights reel when you’re on a date. "Your personal habits are revealed, your moods are unfiltered, and it’s a real opportunity to see how well you can navigate as a team. Actually, this is a very important aspect of your relationship if you're looking to be together long term." Luckily Dr Audrey has plenty of advice, which can also be useful for the other big milestone - moving in together. She believes couples should "ride the ‘storm’ to a new sense of ‘normality’ from which you can flourish".
And there's four key things to remember... 1. Blame the logistics Whether you're moving in together, or you're going on your first holiday together, it's certainly very possible that the first gripes happen much before anyone has had time to think.
